A man’s experience Of having a haircut must be radically different from that of a woman’s.. First of all, I wonder if men find it awkward to have a full-fledged conversation with the person holding the sharp shiny scissors in their hand.. I personally find myself a little uneasy.. The only worry of mine with my hair is its length.. People with curly hair will tell you that getting a hair cut is a tricky business as one can easily end up with a bob that looks like a well-rounded ball..

However, what I really want to talk about here is the dreaded question that almost every hairdresser asks you..

When was the last time you had a haircut?

Without sounding like an A-list celebrity, I always answer a month ago.. But really, how often do you need to get it cut? What is a long time period for one’s hair to be cut? The sad reality is I never remember when my last haircut was.. Which hints that it was a really long time ago… I never find the strength in me to tell the truth anymore because of one indelible experience..

When I was faced with the same question couple of months ago in a new hairdresser, I told the truth and said probably more than a year ago.. Maybe this was a far-fetched answer I don’t know.. But it seemed like it was a sin for anyone to utter those words in that order as an answer.. I was faced with a disgusted and discerned look from the girl behind me who started screaming emergency.. When all the other hairdressers were creating a circle above my head I realized I was the victim of the day.. While they were analyzing every strand of my hair I was looking down thinking to myself this is purely my fault.. Never again..

Even though I must admit their customer service was a little too far, I was being treated like a princess for the day because of my split ends…

Note to self: I must go to the hairdresser soon…
